Invisalign![]() What is Invisalign and how does it work?Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces that is used to correct crooked teeth or a misaligned bite. It uses a series of custom-made aligners that are designed to gradually move your teeth into the proper position. These clear aligners can be removed for eating, and brushing and flossing, making Invisalign comfortable and convenient. What Are the Steps of Getting An Invisalign? The steps for getting Invisalign are similar to those for traditional braces. First, your dentist or orthodontist will examine your teeth and take X-rays and impressions of your teeth. These records will be used to develop a treatment plan and create your custom aligners. When they're ready, you'll begin wearing the first set of aligners. The number of aligners you need depends on how much your teeth need to move to get them into their proper position; it could take anywhere from 18 to 30 sets of aligners. You'll wear each set for about two weeks before switching to the next one in the sequence. You'll visit your dentist or orthodontist every six weeks or so so they can monitor your progress. It might take anywhere from several months to more than a year for you to complete treatment with Invisalign. What Are Some of the Issues that Can Be Corrected With Invisalign? If you're looking for a way to straighten your teeth that is not as noticeable as traditional metal braces, Invisalign is a great option. This advanced system utilizes clear plastic aligners that are custom fitted to your mouth. Some of the issues Invisalign can correct are gaps between teeth. If there are gaps between your teeth where food can become stuck, you may want to consider Invisalign. The removable aligners can be taken out before brushing, so you don't have to worry about food getting trapped in between your teeth. Invisalign is also good for fixing overcrowded teeth. When there is not enough room in the jaw for all of the teeth, overcrowding can occur. This issue can be resolved by slowly moving the teeth into their proper positions with Invisalign. Lastly, they can fix overbite, underbite and crossbite. In crossbite, one or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth. This issue may cause pain or discomfort in the jaw and may also lead to tooth wear or gum disease if left untreated. It can be corrected with Invisalign by shifting the upper and lower teeth so they meet. For more information about Invisalign visit us at Kaw Valley Family Dental.
